A 33-year-old woman who has been arrested nine times in the past 15 years is being accused of fleeing from law enforcement after her car T-boned an SUV at an intersection in Ocala.

On Monday, February 24, an Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal was near the Circle K located at 5182 E Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala when a woman, identified as Ocala resident Nicole Backer, was observed entering a silver car. The arrest report stated that Backer did not put on a seatbelt, and her vehicle did not come to a stop prior to leaving the parking lot.

According to the report, Backer headed eastbound on NE 24th Street as the corporal followed in a patrol vehicle. When Backer attempted to make a left turn onto NE 25th Street, her car veered wide onto the grass, where it nearly became stuck.

Backer’s car then allegedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of NE 25th Street and E Silver Springs Boulevard. Shortly after her car entered the intersection, it collided with a Chevrolet Trailblazer, causing “heavy damage” to both vehicles.

Backer sustained serious injuries in the collision. She was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel.

“When (Backer’s) treatment is completed, she will be transported to the Marion County Jail,” said the corporal in the report. No further details were provided regarding the extent of Backer’s injuries.

A computer search of Backer revealed that her driver’s license was suspended at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Backer is being charged with fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer with disregard of safety to persons or property (felony) and driving with a suspended license (misdemeanor). As of Tuesday, February 25, her booking photo is not available.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
