A private Christian school in southeast Ocala will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony later this week for its new school building expansion, which will add an additional 100 seats at the elementary level.

Grace Christian School will cut the ribbon on its new Lower School building expansion on Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m. on its campus in southeast Ocala.

The school, which is located at 4410 SE 3rd Avenue, is situated on a 55-acre campus.

The new Lower School will add 100 seats at the elementary level, bringing the school’s capacity to over 400 students.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony comes less than a year after the school first broke ground at the southeast Ocala site.

Established in 1957, Grace Christian School serves students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. It is one of less than 10 private Christian schools in the state of Florida that has earned a Cambridge International School designation.

“This campus expansion has been a dream of ours for many years, and we are thrilled that it will finally be a reality for Grace students,” said Thomas Gerds, Head of School, in a statement last year.

Three years ago, the school announced a campaign to replace 12 portables with a permanent building for third and fourth-grade classes.

“We have been extremely blessed by our generous community to have raised $2.2 million during that time, and hope to raise an additional $2 million before the completion of the project in early 2025,” said Gerds last year.
