Workers were seen removing the signage from a Big Lots in east Ocala on Monday, while another location in southwest Ocala is scheduled to close later this week and is currently selling items at 50-80% off.
The Big Lots at 8602 SW State Road 200 is closing on Friday, March 14, according to signs posted on the doors of the establishment.
On Monday, construction crews were seen removing the “Big Lots” lettering from another establishment in east Ocala at 2653 E Silver Springs Boulevard. In late January, the lease for that Big Lots was listed for sale.

Banners outside of the southwest store show that items are being sold for “up to 50%-80% off.”
According to sales listings for all three stores, the store on Silver Springs Blvd is 30,075 square feet in size, the SR 200 location is 32,218 square feet in size, and the Maricamp location, which is the newest of the bunch, is 48,010 square feet in size.
Ocala-News.com did not confirm the closing date of the location along SE Maricamp Road before the publication of this story.
Gordon Brothers purchased Big Lots remaining assets, including its stores, distribution centers, and intellectual property, in December 2024, after a previous purchase deal fell through and the company announced that all of its stores would close.
At the time, Variety Wholesalers agreed to purchase between 200 and 400 of the Big Lots locations from Gordon Brothers. Variety Wholesalers currently owns more than 400 retail stores in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic United States under several brands, including Roses, Roses Express, Maxway, and Bargain Town.
Ocala-news.com first reported in September 2024 that Big Lots had filed for bankruptcy.
