A horse was sold for $3 million this week during the Ocala Breeders’ March Sale, setting a single-horse sale record for the organization during an event that generated nearly $66 million in total sales.
The Ocala Breeders’ March Sale concluded this week after over 400 horses were sold for around $65.8 million.
The OBS March Sale took place over the course of multiple sessions this week, capping off with a final day of sales on Thursday that topped $25 million ($25,316,500).
In total, the 432 horses sold at the event generated gross sales of approximately $65,815,500. According to OBS, the amount surpassed the 2024 tally of $65,239,100, despite fewer horses being sold in this year than in that year (454).
On Thursday, Hip 654, consigned by Eddie Woods, was sold for a record $3 million to Donato Lanni, an agent for Zedan Racing.
Sired by Gun Runner, the colt is the first foal out of the Liam’s Map mare Tynan, a half-sister to graded stakes winner Pappacap and Boppy O.

According to the organization, this year’s event saw an average sale of $152,351, which was up nearly $10,000 over last year. OBS says the median, however, was down from $72,000 in 2024 to $70,000 this year.
During the organization’s winter sale, around 213 horses were sold for just over $3.1 million.
Last April, around 633 horses were sold for just over $82,000,000 during the OBS Spring Sale. Just a few weeks before that in March, OBS brokered around $66 million in sales during its March sale. During that event, at least four horses were sold for over $1 million.
