A 27-year-old Marion County man was arrested on battery and assault charges after he allegedly held a gun to his stepfather’s neck and struck the victim in the forehead with its barrel.

On Tuesday, April 15, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy made contact with the male victim at his residence. The victim advised that his stepson, Ocklawaha resident James Isaac Seaman, had “broke through his locked bedroom door” and “push(ed) him around the room,” according to the arrest report.

During the altercation, the victim alleged that Seaman grabbed him “by his neck” and “pushed (him) down onto the bed.” Seaman then allegedly held a small black handgun to the victim’s neck and threatened to “shoot” him.

According to the victim’s statement, Seaman then “hit (the victim) on his forehead with the butt of the firearm” and left the room. The report stated that the victim’s forehead had a small cut and swelling.

Seaman had left the incident location in his vehicle prior to the arrival of law enforcement, but he returned to the home and was detained in handcuffs without incident. The deputy then searched the interior of the residence and observed that the bedroom door was “broken off the door frame,” according to the report.

The deputy noted that the victim provided video footage of the incident, which showed Seaman entering the home. A “small black handgun” appeared to be “in his waistband” as he approached the victim’s bedroom, and the same firearm allegedly appeared to be in his right hand when he exited the room.

The deputy returned to Seaman. After being read his Miranda rights, Seaman claimed that he was “acting in self-defense.” He denied possessing a firearm during the incident, and he further claimed that the black object seen in the videos was his “phone,” according to the report.

However, the deputy mentioned in the report that Seaman’s phone case was “bright orange and camo color(ed),” which did not appear to match the black object seen in the video.

Seaman was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $30,000 bond. He is facing the following charges: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

A court date for Seaman has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
