A restaurant that serves a golf community in south Marion County has been temporarily shut down for multiple days after failing three inspections due to dozens of health code violations, including the presence of over two dozen roaches.

Broad Stripes Golf and Social Club has been temporarily closed since last Thursday, May 8, due to three consecutive failed health inspections conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

According to the inspector’s first report, during a visit on Thursday, May 8, the business was cited for approximately 27 health code violations. At least four of those violations were classified as “high priority.” Those violations included the presence of at least 23 roaches that were found all around the kitchen.

Additionally, several foods were being held at temperatures greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit, which is prohibited. The foods being improperly stored included liquid eggs, raw beef, and raw chicken.

During a second visit on Saturday, May 10, the business was once again cited for four health code violations and was not permitted to reopen. The inspection report notes that during that visit, at least nine more roaches were spotted around the kitchen.

During a third visit on Monday, May 12, at least three more live roaches were found inside a cooler crevice. The manager killed and cleaned those roaches in the front of the inspector.

No additional inspections have been conducted, according to records maintained by the state.
