A former Winn-Dixie grocery store in south Ocala that has been converted into a new ALDI will officially open its doors in the coming weeks.
ALDI will open the renovated store at 184 Marion Oaks Boulevard on June 4, according to an online listing for the supermarket.
Last September, Ocala-News.com reported on the conversion of the new ALDI. Later that month, the new grocery store posted job solicitations for several positions and managerial staff.
Last Summer, plans were submitted by 184 Marion Oaks Blvd, LLC, which is connected to a New York-based commercial real estate company, for “additions/alterations” at the former Winn-Dixie location.
The opening of the new store comes just under two years after ALDI first acquired Winn-Dixie locations in a multi-billion dollar deal. The company eventually sold hundreds of those locations and focused on renovating a portion of those they originally purchased.
Founded in 1946 by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht, the ALDI brand was adopted in 1962 and the first store in the United States opened in 1976. The multinational company currently operates over 12,000 stores across a dozen and a half countries, according to its website.
Currently, ALDI operates four grocery stores in Ocala, including two located on or near State Road 200 and another in the southeast that serves Silver Springs Shores.
