A local high school student has earned a full ride to a Gainesville area college, accomplishing his goal by applying for and receiving multiple grants and scholarships during his senior year.
Adrian Cervantes will attend Santa Fe College on a full scholarship this fall. A soon-to-be graduate of North Marion High School, Cervantes earned a tuition voucher, a pell grant, and a number of scholarships that he applied for during his senior year.
Those scholarships came from the Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF), D.A. Lewis Reddick High School, the NMHS Winners Circle, and AMVETS Post 1208.
The biggest scholarship that Cervantes received came from SSF, which provides rent-free housing and cooperative living to students who lack financial resources and who demonstrate excellent academic merit while exemplifying good character. The organization has impacted over 10,000 alumni and currently operates over 26 houses across the state of Florida.
The young student says he “never really knew” how he would use his success “to the highest capacity,” and suggested that SSF has afforded him the “opportunity of a lifetime.”
Cervantes says he has been enrolled in advanced placement classes and advanced international certificate of education (AICE) programs during his high school career. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Cervantes was involved in soccer and cross country running during his time in high school and also won a district championship in volleyball.
At Santa Fe, Cervantes hopes to major in sports management. He says he chose the school because of its location in Gainesville and the various athletic programs in the region.

“I would like to thank my family, the man above and my guidance counselor for the consistent support,” said Cervantes in a statement to Ocala-News.com.
“My overall message for future students is to just apply for scholarships, I’ve been made aware of the downward trend of students not applying, which I find crazy,” said Cervantes in a statement.
