An 81-year-old man was killed after his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck while he was attempting to turn onto State Road 40 in Ocala.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 40 and SW 113th Circle in Ocala at around 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 21.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the elderly man was driving a sedan southbound on SW 113th Circle, approaching the roadway’s intersection with SR 40.
The man attempted to make a left turn onto SR 40, crossing over the westbound lanes to do so. As he crossed those lanes, his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck being driven westbound on the inside lane of SR 40.
After the collision, the sedan came to rest in the inside paved shoulder of SR 40 and the center median, just west of the roadway’s intersection with SW 113th Circle.
The pickup truck, which was towing a trailer, came to final rest on the center median of SR 40, just west of the intersection, facing a northwestern direction.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene at 9 a.m. by Marion County Fire Rescue.
According to FHP, the elderly man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver of the pickup truck, a 46-year-old man from Ocala, was wearing a seatbelt during the accident and was not injured.
