The Florida Forest Service conducted a prescribed burn on Wednesday on 125 acres of the Indian Lake State Forest in Marion County.
The burn area is located south of NE 97th Street Road, north of County Road 326, and west of NE 58th Avenue/Baseline Road.

Prescribed burns are controlled applications of fire under specific weather conditions that are conducted to restore health to ecosystems that depend on fire.
The burns improve wildlife habitat, eliminate vegetation build up, and reduce the threat of future wildfires. They tend to promote healthier plant and wildlife populations.
Motorists in the area are advised to drive with caution, although smoke should not impact local roadways.
