City officials will break ground on a new, 6,000-square-foot expansion at the Ocala Skate Park next week.
The city will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, August 28, at 9:15 a.m. at the park, which is located at 517 NE 9th Street.

In March, the Ocala City Council approved a contract for the park’s expansion during one of its regular meetings.
The project calls for the addition of new bowls, a snake run, and a paved walking path, among other upgrades. Work at the site will be performed by Platform Group, LLC.

A conceptual summary provided by Platform Group, which is based in Tampa, shows that the design will include “nods to the local area, incorporating palm trees and local artwork that reflects the vibrant culture of Ocala.”

The city of Ocala held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for its skate park in May of 2019. It is the first official skate park endorsed by the city of Ocala within city limits.
At the time, city officials were clear that the park was not yet complete. The $410,000 street course represented the first phase of a larger plan which called for the snake run, larger bowl, lighting, pavilion and other necessary amenities to fill out the park.
Platform Group will perform the construction over the course of four phases.
UPDATE: This story was edited to clarify that the event will be held on August 28 and to correct the square footage of the expansion.
