A new thrift and consignment store that just opened its doors in southwest Ocala is looking to purchase mens’ and women’s clothing to stock inventory before its official grand opening.

Uptown Cheapskate opened its doors at 3930 SW 42nd Street, Suite 109, last week. The new business is currently purchasing merchandise in anticipation of a formal grand opening.

Owned by Brian and Rachel McVey, Uptown Cheapskate is situated in the Berkshire Oaks shopping center, between McAlister’s Deli and Family Dollar.

The business is currently operating Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., buying “freshly laundered, in style clothing” in exchange for cash or 25% more in store credit.

Ocala-News.com first reported news of Uptown Cheapskate in September.

When it opens fully, Uptown Cheapskate will offer local residents a spot to buy, sell, or trade gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories in exchange for cash, other clothing, and store credit. The store credit option is accompanied by an extra 25% more on the quoted value.

Uptown Cheapskate was founded by siblings Scott Sloan and Chelsea Sloan Carroll, who opened in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2008. The siblings parents, Brent and Shauna Sloan, founded the children’s resale franchise, Kid to Kid, in 1992.

As of October 28, there are over 140 Uptown Cheapskate locations in operation across the country. The company reports that an additional 50 stores are currently in development.

In the state of Florida, there are now nine Uptown Cheapskate locations in operation, according to the company’s website. One of those locations just recently opened in Oviedo (Seminole County).
