A Summerfield woman has filed a lawsuit against Rooms To Go, claiming she suffered a traumatic brain injury and permanent memory loss after a metallic vase fell from a shelf and struck her in the head.
In a complaint filed in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on March 30, Pauline Miner alleges she was a customer at the Rooms To Go located at 2832 SW College Road in Ocala on June 28, 2024.
According to the lawsuit, Miner was struck by a metallic vase that fell from a store shelf, resulting in a four-inch wound on the top of her head.
The impact allegedly required her to be transported by ambulance to a local emergency room, where medical staff used six staples to close the wound.
Following the incident, Miner was diagnosed with a brain injury, vertigo, and increasing memory loss. The suit claims she continues to suffer from persistent headaches, physical disability, and a diminished capacity for the enjoyment of life.
The complaint levels several allegations of negligence against R.T.G. Furniture Corp., which does business as Rooms To Go, asserting that the company failed to provide a safe environment for invitees and neglected to adequately inspect or maintain the premises.
Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges the store failed to secure the vase in a reasonable manner to prevent it from falling and did not properly train or supervise employees regarding safety procedures and hazard reporting.
Miner alleges that the shelving and the object that fell were under the exclusive control of the furniture store. She is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and a trial by jury.
