A 43-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested over the weekend after allegedly threatening on Facebook Messenger to shoot another man.
On Sunday, April 6, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a Silver Springs residence and spoke with the male victim. According to the arrest report, the victim stated that another man – identified as James Junior White – had sent him “several threatening messages over Facebook Messenger” during the past week.
The victim further alleged that White “threatened to shoot (him).”
The deputy noted that the victim had screen captures of the Facebook messages that were reportedly sent by White. In one of those messages, which the victim received on March 31, White allegedly said that he was “going to shoot (the victim) the next time he sees him.”
White was located, and the deputy advised him of his Miranda rights. During an interview, White allegedly said that he was “mad” because the victim had “stole his stuff.”
While speaking with the deputy, White allegedly admitted to sending the threatening messages, though he claimed that he “only threatened to shoot (the victim) because the victim did the same thing earlier that day,” according to the report.
White handed the deputy his cellphone, and the deputy reviewed numerous back-and-forth messages between White and the victim. In the report, the deputy noted that the victim did not appear to threaten White during those written exchanges.
The deputy placed White under arrest and transported him to Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody. His bond has been set at $15,000, and he is being charged with making written threats to kill.
A court date for White has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
