Marion County Fire Rescue crews were able to take control of a brush fire in the Silver Springs area that quickly expanded due to high winds on Monday.
Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at 3:42 p.m. on Monday, May 4 in reference to an outdoor fire in the 500 block of NE 118th Avenue Road in Silver Springs.
The caller told emergency personnel that approximately a quarter-acre was on fire and that no structures were being threatened at the time.
Upon arrival at 3:50 p.m., units from East Marion Station 4 found flames spreading through the woods.
Firefighters reported that the blaze was fueled by heavy vegetation and pushed by high winds.
The suppression effort grew to include additional units from Anthony Station 1, Electra Volunteer Station 26, and the United States Forest Service.
As a result of the coordinated effort, firefighters were able to call the fire under control by 4:08 p.m.
Official estimates indicate that approximately two acres of woods were burned in the incident.
Authorities reported no injuries to civilians or first responders on the scene and the cause and the origin of the fire remain under investigation.
