Northbound commuters on Interstate 75 are facing significant delays this morning after a vehicle fire blocked portions of the highway and brought traffic to a crawl in south Marion County.
The incident was first reported to the Florida Highway Patrol at around 5:49 a.m., near mile marker 343 in Ocala. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to address the blaze and manage the growing line of morning traffic.
According to an update from the Florida Department of Transportation, the right shoulder of the highway remains blocked as of 7:30 a.m. The transportation agency notes that the vehicle fire and the subsequent emergency response have severely impacted the northbound lanes, stretching from just beyond mile marker 338 all the way up to mile marker 342.

Road Rangers are currently stationed ahead of the incident to assist, and officials are strongly urging all approaching drivers to move over or slow down for the safety of the crews on the scene.
Live traffic cameras in the affected area show extensive, bumper-to-bumper congestion stretching for several miles along the interstate.
Although the Florida Highway Patrol dispatch logs indicate that the main roadway was cleared of wreckage shortly after 6:02 a.m., the lingering right shoulder blockage and the high volume of typical morning commuters have resulted in sustained, cascading delays throughout the morning.
Drivers traveling through the southern portion of Marion County on Interstate 75 this morning should expect significantly slower travel times.
