A man has died after he was shot by a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a domestic disturbance call on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in the 14900 block of SW 35th Avenue Road in Ocala at approximately 2:26 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, in response to a reported domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, a deputy made contact with a man involved in the disturbance. During the encounter, the man wielded a firearm. In response, the deputy shot the man and then began rendering aid to the individual.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the man to the hospital in critical condition. Upon arrival at the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The man’s identity has not yet been released to the public.
Major Crimes detectives have responded to the scene, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and will be investigating the shooting.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office stated that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
