The 9/11 Traveling Memorial Wall is coming to the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park.
The display, which honors the memory of those who perished in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 will be on display 24 hours a day between Sept. 11-15 at the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park, located at 2601 SE Fort King Street.
Events being held in association with the memorial include:
- Sept. 11: Opening ceremony (8:30-9:30 a.m.), evening program (6-7:30 p.m.)
- Sept. 12: Educational tours (10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), live tribute (6-7:30 p.m.);
- Sept. 13: Educational tours (10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.), 9/11 survivor stories (6-8 p.m.)
- Sept. 14: JROTC demonstration (10:30 a.m.-4 p.m.)
- Sept. 15: Closing ceremony (4-5 p.m.).
The event also will include fire and police demonstrations and displays, a Medal of Honor Memorial and a visit by a ShandsCair medical helicopter.
The Traveling Wall is scheduled to arrive on Sept. 10 with a motorcycle escort. The ride will take place on a scenic route through Ocala to the Veterans Memorial Park.
Those wishing to take part in the motorcycle escort are encouraged to stage at War Horse Harley-Davidson, located at 5331 N U.S. Hwy. 441, from 7:30-8:45 a.m. The first 100 riders to arrive will receive a free commemorative coin sponsored by the Ocala Hog chapter. Free food while it lasts will be supplied at the Harley-Davidson dealership after the event.
