Final member of family passes away after deadly crash on I-75 in Alachua County

The death of a 10-year-old marks the passing of the only surviving family member from a deadly crash Sunday morning on Interstate 75 in Alachua County.

The Florida Highway Patrol released a report Tuesday afternoon indicating that Nathan Russell Jr. had passed away at UF Shands Hospital. He had been the only survivor of a crash that had claimed four other members of his family.

Nathan E. Russell, 37, of Hollywood, had been at the wheel of a southbound 2016 Chrysler 200 at 8:43 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a disabled semi tractor-trailer truck operated by Alton Lucius Gravely, 55, of Newberry, according to an accident report from FHP. Russell and three passengers, 35-year-old Lynda Russell, 15-year-old La’Nyah Russell and 10-year-old Natayah Russell, were all died at the scene of the crash.

The family had reportedly been traveling home from a trip to Georgia.
