Bloodied elderly roommate calls deputies for help after attack at RV park

James Hubert Joiner

An unemployed Silver Springs man was arrested late Wednesday night after his 71-year-old bloodied roommate called Marion County deputies for help.

When deputies arrived at the Holiday Travel RV Park on W. Silver Springs Boulevard, they spoke with a man who told them that 50-year-old James Hubert Joiner had attacked him when he refused to give him some of his prescription medicine.

The man told deputies that James pushed him, struck him in in the face twice – once on the left side of his head and the other in his mouth. The man said James broke his dentures and prescription glasses and then left on foot when told that law enforcement was being called.

The deputy noted in the report that he saw “multiple fresh lacerations with dried blood” on the man’s left arm and blood on his mouth. The deputy also observed that the front top tooth of the man’s dentures was missing.

Joiner was taken into custody, transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with domestic battery on a person over 65. He was held on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.
