Ocala man jailed after traffic stop reveals suspended license, wrong tag on car

Derek Alexander Bevan

An Ocala man was arrested Wednesday night after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped him for driving a vehicle without rear taillights.

When the deputy pulled over 19-year-old Derek Alexander Bevan’s black Acura in the 6600 block of SE Maricamp Road, he said his license was suspended and his vehicle wasn’t registered because he couldn’t afford insurance, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy confirmed Bevan’s license was indefinitely suspended on June 6 for failure to pay a traffic fine. He also asked Bevan about the license tag on the Acura and was told it was registered to a truck.

Bevan was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving with a suspended license and failure to register a motor vehicle. He was held with no bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charges.
