Silver Springs man who fled from deputy jailed on multiple charges

Justin Wayne Taylor

A Silver Springs man was arrested on a litany of charges Wednesday night after running from a Marion County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop.

Justin Wayne Taylor, 41, was riding in a dark-colored four-door Mercury around 9 p.m. when the deputy stopped the car’s driver for failing to yield at a stop sign. When the car came to a stop at the intersection of SE 170th Avenue and SE 11th Lane, Taylor exited the passenger side and fled on foot, a sheriff’s office report states.

The deputy said he chased Taylor for about a quarter of a mile while giving him commands to stop. When the deputy eventually caught up with Taylor, he resisted efforts to be put in handcuffs and a struggle ensued, the report says.

A short time later, the deputy escorted Taylor back to the site of the traffic stop, where he said had “lids” in his front right cargo pocket. Deputies then found multiple syringes, several spoons and six white, three-sided pills that were identified as Hydromorphone Hydrochloride, a Schedule 2 narcotic available only by prescription, the report says.

Taylor was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence. He also was charged with three probation violations for petit theft and a failure to appear in court charge for giving false identification to a law enforcement.

Taylor, who has spent time in the Marion County Jail seven times since February 2008, was held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22, Sept. 4, Sept. 9 and Sept. 11 to answer to the charges.
