Speeding farm worker jailed after admitting to suspended driver’s license

Luis Oscar Martinez-Valenzuela

A Morriston farm worker who was speeding on NW Hwy. 464B was arrested Sunday morning after deputies discovered that his driver’s license was suspended.

Luis Oscar Martinez-Valenzuela, 40, was traveling east in the 13500 block of Hwy. 464B in a black Toyota at 73 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. The deputy stopped him and then called for assistance because Martinez-Valenzuela didn’t speak English very well, a sheriff’s office report states.

A short time later, another deputy arrived to translate and Martinez-Valenzuela admitted that he knew his driver’s license was suspended because “he did not comply with a traffic summons from New Jersey,” the report says, adding that Martinez-Valenzuela said the reason he didn’t comply is because he works with horses and is required to travel to several different states.

A computer check of Martinez-Valenzuela’s license confirmed that it was suspended. The deputy took him into custody, released the vehicle to its owner and transported Martinez-Valenzuela to the Marion County Jail. He was then charged with driving with a suspended license and released Sunday afternoon on $500 bond.
