Citra woman jailed after bloodied man late on daily rent calls for help

Kristin Renee Murphy

A Citra woman was arrested Thursday night after a man with a bloody hand called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for help.

When a sheriff’s deputy arrived at the residence, located at NE 167th Place, the man claimed that 27-year-old Kristin Renee Murphy had slammed his hand in the home’s front door. The deputy noted a small cut and a small amount of blood on the back of the man’s hand “that appeared to have just occurred,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The man told the deputy that he was trying to get back in the house after Murphy told him to “stay out.” The man said he had been living at the residence with Murphy and three children for the past month. And he claimed that when he opened the front door, she “repeatedly” closed it on his hand, the report says.

Murphy told the deputy that the man had been paying her $50 a day to stay at the residence. She said he failed to pay his Thursday rent and “she told him he could not come in.” And she said when he tried to enter the house, she prevented him from doing so by closing the door on him, the report says.

After being read her rights, Murphy denied causing the injury to the man’s hand. She claimed that “he probably injured it while doing work on a house,” the report says.

After establishing that the man had the legal right to enter his own residence, Murphy was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. She was charged with domestic battery and released Friday on $500 bond.

Murphy is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on March 26 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge.
