Head-smacking Ocala woman charged with domestic battery for sixth time

Amanda Ruby Campbell

An Ocala woman was charged with domestic battery for the sixth time after she allegedly hit a man upside the head during an argument Tuesday night.

The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that Amanda Ruby Campbell, 36, approached him in their home on SE 56th Terrace and started yelling at him. He said he asked her to calm down and when she didn’t, he tried to walk into another room. She followed him and struck him in the head, a sheriff’s office report says, adding that the victim couldn’t tell whether she used an open or closed hand.

The victim said after he was struck, he walked into the bedroom, locked the door and called 911. The deputy noted the victim had one clear cut on the left portion of his head and redness near the lower left portion of his face.

According to jail records, Campbell was charged with domestic violence five previous times since 2002, most recently in 2017. She also has arrests for criminal mischief, misusing 911, resisting an officer, loitering and prowling, possession of cannabis and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.

Campbell refused to answer deputies’ questions about what happened this time and how the victim sustained his injuries. She’s being held in the Marion County Jail on $2,000 bond, with her next appearance in Marion County Court scheduled for March 20.
