Belleview woman with massive criminal record back behind bars on battery charge

Courtney Patrice Carpenter

Multiple Marion County sheriff’s deputies scrambled to call for help early Sunday morning at a residence in Belleview.

When deputies arrived at the house on SE 102nd Court, they spoke with a woman who claimed to have been battered by 29-year-old Courtney Patrice Carpenter. The woman showed deputies her upper left armed, which they noted was red, and said that’s where Carpenter had punched her, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said she was cleaning inside the residence she shares with Carpenter when she asked her to retrieve a sponge for her. She Carpenter quickly “became irate and began yelling and screaming.” She said Carpenter then pushed her to the ground and she left the residence, the report says.

Once outside in the backyard, the woman claimed Carpenter “punched her in the arm and then pushed her to the ground.” The victim said she got up and started quickly walking to a neighbor’s house with Carpenter following behind her.

The woman said the neighbor then came outside and told both of them to get off her property, the report says, adding that Carpenter then went back inside their residence and the victim waited outside until deputies arrived.

The neighbor reported hearing “a lot of yelling” before seeing the victim and Carpenter approaching her house. She confirmed that she went outside to “investigate the commotion” and told both of them to get off her property, the report says.

Deputies received permission from the victim to go into the residence, where they found Carpenter lying in her bed. She was given verbal commands, which she followed. But she also told deputies that “nothing physical” had occurred, the report says.

A check of Carpenter’s criminal record showed that on Jan. 20 she was placed on a pretrial release with stipulations that she couldn’t threaten, assault, harass or abuse the victim. And she was prohibited from returning to the residence on SE 102nd Court.

Carpenter was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with domestic battery and violating the conditions of her pretrial release. She was being held with no bond and is due in Marion County Court on April 9 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.

Carpenter is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been in the jail 12 times since January 2008. She was arrested Feb. 5 on outstanding warrants for driving under the influence with serious bodily injury to another person, DUI with property damage and driving while license suspended (second offense). And she also was arrested Jan. 19 and charged with two counts of domestic battery.

Since January 2008, Carpenter also has faced a litany of charges, including violating probation on burglary of a dwelling, an outstanding warrant for grand theft retail, violating probation on a grand thief charge, grand theft auto, residential burglary, driving with license suspended or revoked with knowledge, retail petit theft, possession of alcohol by a person under 21 and DUI.
