Woman stopped for tape-covered rear window lands behind bars on drug charges

Judith Samantha Ann Simms

A Dunnellon woman is in the Marion County Jail after being arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop.

Judith Samantha Ann Simms, 28, of 23900 SW Sea Cliff Ave., was pulled over early Thursday on Southwest Rainbow Lakes Boulevard because the rear window of her tan Ford Explorer was visibly obstructed with non-transparent grey tape. The Marion County sheriff’s deputy who issued Simms a verbal warning for the window violation noticed an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

The deputy asked Simms if there was anything inside the vehicle that he should be aware of and she replied no. The deputy then began to search the vehicle and found a black piece of cloth wrapped around a green leafy substance sitting on the steering wheel column. He also found a clear glass container containing a blue liquid, and a blue glass pipe containing a white powdery residue, a sheriff’s office report states.

The blue liquid and the white powdery residue from the pipe tested positive for methamphetamine, while the green leafy substance tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, the report says.

Simms said the substances did not belong to her and she was not aware of them. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) without a prescription, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. She’s being held on $4,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on April 9.
