Silver Springs woman jailed after violent spat over phone with ex-roommate

Skyler Bussey

A Silver Springs woman found herself behind bars last week after a nasty altercation with her former roommate.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to a residence on SE 172nd Terrace on Wednesday and when he arrived, 20-year-old Skyler Bussey told him she had tangled with her ex-roommate. When asked what the fight was about, Bussey replied, “I guess because I moved out,” a sheriff’s office report says.

Bussey, who had a contusion above her swollen right eye, said she had moved out of the residence two days earlier. She said she had returned Wednesday and demanded that her former roommate return her cell phone, the report says.

The roommate said she told Bussey to stay on the porch while she retrieved the phone. But she said Bussey entered the residence and allegedly slapped her in the face. The roommate said she defended herself when Bussey started dragging her on the floor of the residence and pulling her hair at the same time, the report says.

The deputy noted several injuries to the roommate, including scratch marks on the back of her neck area, a scratch mark on her right cheek and rug burn on her knees, feet and elbows, the report says.

Bussey was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with burglary with assault or battery and domestic battery. She was released late Friday afternoon on her own recognizance and is due in a Marion County courtroom on July 2 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
