SUV crashes into building and comes to rest partially inside Ocala apartment

A SUV traveling north on NW Third Street slammed into the Laurel Park Apartments on Sunday night.

A red Ford Explorer hit a curb, grazed a tree and drove through a fence before coming to rest partially inside a unit at the Laurel Park Apartments on Sunday night.

Multiple Ocala Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the crash and when they arrived at the apartment complex at 100 NW 23rd Ave., they discovered that a red Ford Explorer had hit a curb, grazed a tree and gone through a fence before coming to rest partially inside one of the apartments. Bystanders advised firefighters that all of the residents were outside the building and no one had been injured. And they said the driver of the SUV had left the scene.

The damaged apartment was deemed uninhabitable after a building inspector was called to assess the damage to the building. Fire crews also remained on scene until a tow truck removed the Explorer from the building.

Officers from the Ocala Police Department and crews from Marion County Fire Rescue also responded.
