A Silver Springs man with a long criminal record found himself behind bars earlier this week after fleeing from Marion County sheriff’s deputies on a motorcycle.

A sheriff’s lieutenant attempted to stop the motorcycle that was being driven by 36-year-old Joseph Aaron Grogan. He pulled into a Circle K to drop off his female passenger and then fled westbound in the grassy side of Hwy. 40, a sheriff’s office report states.

After a short pursuit, Grogan pulled over and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding, possession of a controlled substance, driving without a valid license, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $6,500 bond and is due in court Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.

Grogan is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been held in the jail six times since April 2012. During those arrests, he has faced charges – some more than once – of possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams, grand theft, resisting a merchant, driving without a valid license, passing a forged or altered instrument, resisting an officer without violence, retail petit theft and driving with license suspended or revoked.
