Hair-grabbing woman accused of battering elderly woman and grandson

Brenda Usha Rampaul

A 44-year-old Ocala woman who said she’s tired of being told what to do was arrested for allegedly battering an elderly woman and her grandson.

Brenda Usha Rampaul was charged with domestic battery on a person 65 years or older and child abuse without great bodily harm after the incident, which happened Thursday afternoon at her residence on Hemlock Trail.

The elderly victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Rampaul were arguing about a debit card when Rampaul grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. The victim had a red mark on the left side of her head, and she said she put ice on it before the deputy arrived. She refused medical attention, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim’s juvenile grandson said he tried to stop Rampaul from battering his grandmother when she pushed him in an aggressive manner. He didn’t receive any injuries, the report said.

Rampaul told the deputy she is tired of the victim controlling her and telling her what to do and not to do around the house. She said she didn’t care if she went to jail. Rampaul said she grabbed the victim by the hair and pushed her to the ground because she’s tired of her, according to the report.

Rampaul was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was being held Monday on $10,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 14.
