Convicted Belleview batterer charged after spat in car with same woman

Robert Talbot

A Belleview man who battered his girlfriend and her adult son in January was arrested last week after an altercation with the same woman while she was picking him up at work in Ocala

Robert James Talbot, 50, was charged with domestic battery (second or subsequent offense).  A criminal history check shows he was adjudicated guilty on March 9 for domestic battery against the same victim.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Thursday to the Circle K store at 3040 S. Pine Ave. in Ocala, where the victim said Talbot had battered her. She said she was picking up Talbot from work at Caruthers Concrete, 2240 SW 7th Ave., when he became argumentative with her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she tried to separate herself from Talbot by getting out of the vehicle, but Talbot grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back into the vehicle. She said she continued drive, but every mile or so Talbot would grab the steering wheel to try and steer them off the roadway, the report said.

The victim said she eventually made it to the store, where she was able to call 911. The deputy observed a small bruise on the victim’s upper right arm consistent with being grabbed. She declined medical assistance, according to the report.

Talbot first told the deputy nothing physical had taken place. He said he and the victim got into an argument over the victim’s son before stopping at the store. Talbot said he was unaware that the victim had even called law enforcement, the report said.

After being read his Miranda rights, Talbot said the victim came to pick him up at work, where she was driving erratically. He said he tried to get her to stop several times. Talbot said at one point, she tried to get out of the vehicle and walk back to his place of work, and he grabbed her arm to get her back into the vehicle so they could leave. He said from there they drove to the store, where they were met by an Ocala Police officer, according to the report.

The officer phoned a witness who said she observed the incident from the business. The witness said she saw Talbot grab the victim on the arm and pull her back into the vehicle. She said she didn’t know what the argument was about and didn’t get into the middle of it. The witness said both parties left the scene and she was unaware what happened after that, the report said.

Talbot was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was still being held without bond on Tuesday. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on June 9.
