Citra man jailed after nasty spat over unannounced guests

Alberto Orellano

A Citra man was arrested recently after he reportedly became violent when unannounced guests from Michigan showed up at his home.

Alberto Orellano, 61, was charged with one count each of simple battery and simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened Tuesday night at his residence.

The male victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he heard Orellano arguing with the female victim and her daughter, who was a witness. He said when he tried to get into the middle of the argument to ask what was wrong, Orellano pushed him, causing him to stumble backward, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The witness said she and the first victim are visiting from Michigan. She said she and her mother were sitting on the porch by the pool when Orellano shut off the pool pump and lights. The witness said she and the male witness went inside the house to speak to Orellano, who became irate and pushed over a plastic table in the living room, the report said.

The witness said Orellano then pushed the victim, causing him to stumble backward. She said Orellano went into the office with the female victim (her mother) and came out headed towards the kitchen in search of a knife, according to the report.

The female victim, who spoke primarily Spanish, said she saw Orellano push the male victim. She said she and Orellano went into the office to speak about the incident and he grabbed her by the arms and shook her violently before storming out of the room saying he was going to find a knife, the report said.

The female victim said she was in fear, as Orellano has threatened to kill her in the past. She said Orellano was unable to find a knife, and that she locked herself in a room with the male victim, the witness and two children, according to the report.

Orellano told the deputy he did nothing wrong. He said he was only angry because he didn’t like the male victim and the witness coming to his house unannounced. Orellano was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Wednesday on $1,000 bond. He will answer to the charges in Marion County Court on July 30.
