Marion County firefighters battled a blazed Wednesday on an Interstate 75 exit ramp after a semi-truck caught fire.
Multiple 911 callers reported seeing flames in-between the cab and trailer of the semi, which was sitting on the southbound exit ramp of I-75 near Mile Marker 368. The callers said heavy smoke was coming from the truck, a report states.
Marion County Fire Rescue’s Orange Lake Engine Company #9 arrived on scene at 7:18 p.m. and confirmed the semi was on fire. The engine’s lieutenant completed an inspection of the fire grounds, checked the placards and noted that there were no HAZMAT issues. Lowell Engine Company #11 arrived on scene a short time later to assist in battling the blaze.
Firefighters made a quick offensive attack and called the fire under control within three minutes. Crews were able to stop the flames from spreading into the trailer and save the cargo. The southbound exit remained closed while the damaged semi was removed.
