Erratic-driving Dunnellon man nabbed on multiple charges

Matthew Smith

A Dunnellon man was jailed recently after Marion County sheriff’s deputies spotted him driving erratically.

The deputies performed a traffic stop in the 14000 block of S.W. Hwy. 484 and spoke with 42-year-old Michael Smith, who originally claimed his first name was Marc because his license was suspended, a sheriff’s office report says.

After Smith was detained, deputies located two glass pipes and Fentanyl in his vehicle. They also found methamphetamine when searching Smith, the report says.

Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, trafficking in a controlled substance, giving false identification to a law enforcement officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held on $24,500 bond and is due court Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
