Ocala man accused of shoving and choking woman

Nathan Warran Cox

An Ocala man was arrested after he allegedly shoved a woman onto a bed and choked her during a recent domestic spat.

Nathan Warren Cox, 36, was charged with simple domestic battery and domestic battery by strangulation after the incident, which happened recently at the residence where he and the victim live.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she was trying to go to sleep but Cox wouldn’t leave her alone. She said he kept trying to start arguments with her and told her he wanted her out of his residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Cox then started throwing things out of her closet and vacuuming in front of the door to her bedroom. She said she tried to close her door and Cox forcefully pushed it open, striking her with it in her chest, the report said.

The victim said she hit Cox in the back of the head with a dog toy, and he then tackled her onto the bed and slammed her head against the wall.  She said Cox pushed her onto the bed face-first, wrapped his arms around her throat and started choking her. The victim said she was unable to breathe and felt like she was going to pass out, according to the report.

The victim said Cox finally let go and she called 911 and left the residence. The deputy observed red marks on the victim’s chest and on her neck, according to the report.

Cox told the deputy he was having an argument with the victim when she hit him in the face with a shoe. He said he tackled her and tried to restrain her to keep her from trying to hit him. Cox did not have any injuries or visible marks, and he refused to say anything else after he was read his Miranda warning, the report said.

Cox was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released on $3,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 23.
