Fort McCoy man accused of hitting couple who told him to leave

Justin Vincent Sampson

A 30-year-old Fort McCoy man was arrested after he reportedly punched a man and slapped a woman after being told to leave a gathering because some horseplay was getting out of hand.

The female victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Justin Vincent Sampson struck her fiancé in the face. She said on the evening of Jan. 25, Sampson was drinking alcohol outside the home and wrestling, and it was getting out of hand. The victim said she told both Sampson and her fiancé to leave, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The male victim said Sampson then got into an argument with both victims and slapped the female victim in the face and punched him in the face. He said he fought back to defend himself and the female victim. Both victims said Sampson then went into the field in front of the residence and laid on the ground, which is where the deputy found him, the report said.

Sampson said nothing happened and to go talk to both victims instead. The deputy observed the male victim had redness under his left eye that was becoming swollen. The female victim did not have any noticeable injuries, according to the report.

Sampson was charged with two counts of simple battery and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released Jan. 27 on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 18.
