Ocala woman charged with shoving woman in spat

LaTonya Melissa White

An Ocala woman accused of shoving a woman during an argument said she did it because she felt like she was being “attacked.”

LaTonya Melissa White, 53, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened March 15. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she and White were in an argument over White not helping her, and it escalated when White pushed her twice.

The victim said she immediately left the incident location after she was pushed. She provided camera footage from inside the house that showed White pushing her once in the hallway and another time in the living room. The video did not show the victim become physical with White, according to the sheriff’s office report.

After being read her Miranda warning, White said she was in her bedroom when the victim walked in and started to argue with her. She said the argument led to the living room hallway, and she pushed the victim backwards to get away from her. White said she felt like she was being “attacked,” the report said.

White was taken to the Marion County Jail. She was released the next day on her own recognizance and will appear in Marion County Court on April 15.
