A Dunnellon man with multiple outstanding warrants was arrested after leading police on a foot chase through multiple restaurants at the Belleview Regional Shopping Center.
On Monday, August 30, a Belleview Police Department officer located 40-year-old Stephen Kelly in a booth at Pasta Faire, which is located at 10401 U.S. Highway 441 in Belleview.
The officer and an affiant approached Kelly, told him he was under arrest, and attempted to handcuff him before a struggle ensued. Kelly eventually broke free and was tased by both the affiant and the officer, according to the BPD report.
The tasers were ineffective and Kelly was able to flee on foot from the restaurant. According to the report, Kelly ran through the Belleview Regional Shopping Center and into Los Magueyes Mexican Restaurant, which is located at 10465 U.S. Highway 441.
Kelly ran straight through the restaurant’s back door and was later located at a lot in Golden Oaks Mobile Home Park, according to the report. He ignored commands from police and had to be tased again before he was subdued and restrained by multiple officers.
Kelly was transported to the Marion County jail with a bond set at $25,500. He faces multiple battery on officer and resisting with violence charges. Kelly also has a collection of outstanding warrants for trafficking in stolen property and giving false information to a pawnbroker, among others.
