Ocala resident says public schools need more security, safety measures

To the Editor:

The school board is in trouble. They’re going to get the locks after they’ve already been robbed. They need metal detectors on the buses, metal detectors at the entrance of the schools. Teachers, staff, everybody that is there to educate and protect the children puts their lives in danger every day. They are not military, they are not police officers, they do not have bulletproof vests.

Metal detectors on buses to protect the bus drivers and metal detectors at the schools should be mandatory and it should be done right away. The public thinks they know what’s going on. No clue, there are weapons and drugs and everything coming into the schools every day. If it was reported, you would do what the majority of the people do and take your kid out of Marion County schools. That would be a shame because they have the best teachers I’ve ever seen.

Would I have my child attend a Marion County School? Absolutely not. So much is hidden, weapons on campus that parents don’t find out about. Marion County: it is going to happen to us. Please go to the school board and demand metal detectors, especially on the bus. I wouldn’t drive a bus and pick up these kids for fear that one of them had a gun and I’m trapped in my bus. That’s why you can’t get bus drivers and teachers are quitting left and right. Get the locks before you’re robbed, Marion County.
