Library seeks volunteer readers for children’s program

The Marion County Public Library System is seeking volunteers who want to make a difference in the life of a young child by reading aloud with the “Library Express” program.

Throughout the school year, volunteers will provide a monthly story time session at various Head Start classrooms in Marion County.

Reading aloud helps children recognize rhyming patterns and develop vocabulary while increasing their attention span. It also helps spark their creativity and imagination.

“Library Express” volunteers receive thorough training on providing story time sessions to children. In addition, all reading materials that are needed for volunteer assignments will also be provided.

Adults who are interested in volunteering for the “Library Express” program should submit a volunteer application, which is available online and at all nine public library locations in Marion County.

All volunteers must attend an orientation and training, commit to the program schedule, and pass a confidential background check prior to being accepted into the program.

For more information about the “Library Express” program, call 352-671-8551.
