Man awaiting trial on battery charge threatens to kill victim, Marion deputies say

A 40-year-old man accused of aggravated battery is wanted by Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies after he allegedly made contact with the male victim while on pre-trial release and threatened to kill him.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods asked for assistance with finding Shawn Michael Northrup. He is wanted for two counts of violation of pre-trial release conditions for domestic violence and one count of tampering with a witness or victim.

In July, Northrup was arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he was accused of continuously punching the male victim. During the altercation, Northrup allegedly struck the victim in the head with a gun, stomped on his leg, and threatened to kill him.

When Shawn was released from jail, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim as a condition of pre-trial release. Sheriff Woods stated that Northrup “did not listen” to this order.

In August, Northrup allegedly went to an unspecified location in an attempt to make contact with the victim, but he fled prior to the arrival of law enforcement. A few months later, on December 2, he allegedly threatened to kill the victim if he “didn’t drop the charges,” according to the sheriff’s office.

A warrant has been obtained for Northrup’s arrest.

“This violent individual needs to be off our streets. I will not tolerate individuals threatening the victims of their crimes,” stated Sheriff Woods.

If you have any information on Northrup’s whereabouts, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office asks that you call the Crime Stoppers of Marion County at 352-368-STOP(7867), and reference 23-70 in your tip.

In the event that you use Crime Stoppers and your tip leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
