Pedestrian struck and killed by pickup truck in Marion County

A 47-year-old man from Interlachen was struck and killed by a pickup truck on County Road 315 in Marion County early Saturday morning.

Shortly after 12:15 a.m., the pickup truck was traveling northbound on County Road 315. At the same time, the man was walking southbound in the middle of the northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

FHP stated that the man was wearing dark clothing, and he walked towards the oncoming pickup truck while in the center of the northbound lanes. The driver was unable to see him until the last moment, and the front of the vehicle proceeded to collide with the man.

After the impact from the collision, the man was “thrown in a northeasterly direction,” and he came to a final rest on the roadway. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue personnel, according to the report.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 19-year-old man from Fort McCoy, was not injured.

The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
