June 8, 1948 ~ February 1, 2024 (age 75)

James Michael “Mike” McQuaig wasborn June 8, 1948 in Tampa Florida and raised in Morriston, Florida on the family farm that he currently resided and loved.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and joined the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in 1973, a dedicated tenure of over 30 years, retiring in 2006 as a Major. During his tenure, as an original SWAT member, he was shot in the line of duty with Willard Pope protecting the citizens of Marion County.

Served as a State Department Contractor for 9 years teaching high level police officers in over 25 foreign countries. Served as Chief of Police for Dunnellon from 2016-2023. Currently a (Reserve) Investigator for the 5th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.

Mike served the law enforcement community as a leader, protector, mentor, and father. He was a Cops-Cop.

Mike served his family as Husband, Dad, and PeePaw “Peeps. “He loved, fishing, hunting, farming, and “tinkering” as he could build or fix anything.

Preceded in death by: Father Lester Robinson and step-mother Ophelia Robinson, Mother Doris Adams, Son Brian McQuaig.

Left to cherish his memory: Wife Cyndie McQuaig, Sons Claude McQuaig (Naleizka) and Keith McQuaig (Stephanie), Daughter Christina Follett (Brian), Stepson Chase Kistler (Amanda), Step daughter Jillian Riley (Daniel), Brothers: Robbie Robinson (Ann) and David Robinson (Mary), Sisters: Deborah Robinson and Sandra Hazen, Grandchildren: Lauren, Steven, Brandon, Jasmine, Bryce, Joscelyne, Matthew, Jacob, Kylee, Brianna, Mason, Kamryn, Kensington, Carolyn, Great Grandchildren:
Luke, Selah, Aether, Juniper, Many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews

Funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 9 at First Baptist Church of Ocala Florida, 2801 SE Maricamp.
