Ocala sanitation worker struck, killed by garbage truck

A sanitation worker from Ocala died on Tuesday morning after he was struck by a garbage truck in a local subdivision.

At around 9 a.m., a garbage truck was operating on SE 108th Terrace, within the Spruce Creek subdivision in Marion County, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The report stated that one of the employees, identified as 25-year-old Ocala man, was loading garbage into the truck when he was struck by one of the vehicle’s tires.

The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue paramedics. His name was not released by FHP.

The driver of the garbage truck, a 63-year-old Ocala man, was not injured.

No further details were provided in the report. An FHP trooper noted that the incident is pending further investigation.
