Charles William Smith

Charles William Smith Jr., known affectionately as Charlie, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, at his hometown of Ocala, FL, the same place where his story began on August 9, 1963.

Born with a bright spark that would become a beacon of joy for all who knew him, Charlie’s life was a tapestry of devotion to his family, passion for his interests, and an unending capacity for making every moment count. Charlie’s legacy is lovingly cherished by his family, whose lives are forever marked by his boundless love and infectious laughter.

He is survived by his children Amber Womble and her husband George Jr., Amanda Garrett and her husband Josh, Charles Zachary Smith, and Scottie Zane Smith and his wife Janae. His memory will be held dear by his 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will carry the torch of his spirit into the future. His brother, William Smith, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends, also survive him, all of whom are united in their loss of a truly remarkable man.

An outdoorsman at heart, Charlie found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. His favorite pastime was fishing, where he would spend hours at the water’s edge, patiently awaiting the catch of the day. His love for hunting was matched only by his skill, and he delighted in the thrill of the chase. Charlie was also a master at the grill, often found surrounded by friends and family as he cooked up a feast that was as much about love as it was about flavor.

Charlie’s hands were as skilled as his heart was generous. He loved welding, a craft where he found a unique blend of artistry and precision. His work was not just a job but a testament to his ability to create and repair, to make the world around him a little stronger and a little more beautiful. His laughter was a familiar sound in the workshop, just as it was in every corner of his life. Animals held a special place in Charlie’s heart, particularly his beloved dog, Bella. She was his loyal companion, sharing in his love for the great outdoors and being by his side through life’s quiet moments.

His love for animals was a reflection of his overall kindness and compassion for all living creatures. Charlie’s personality was larger than life. He was hilarious, with an outgoing and funny demeanor that lit up any room he entered. His sense of humor was a gift that he shared freely, ensuring that you always had a good time in his presence. To be with Charlie was to experience life in its most vibrant form, filled with laughter, storytelling, and genuine connection. As we bid farewell to Charlie, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we shared with him.

His was a life lived with unapologetic exuberance, a reminder to us all to cherish every moment and to spread joy wherever we go. Though he has left us in body, the echoes of his laughter and the warmth of his spirit will remain with us always. In remembrance of Charlie, let us hold close the memories of the great times spent together, the lessons he taught us, and the love he gave so freely. His was a life well-lived, and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, dear Charlie; your memory will forever be a blessing to all who had the privilege to know you.
