Leave non-perishable food in your mailbox for Ocala residents in need

United States Postal Service workers across the city and county will collect canned and non-perishable food donations left in mailboxes on Saturday, May 11, on behalf of a local food bank.

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 32nd annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive on Saturday, May 11.

Marion County residents may participate in the food drive by placing their non-perishable food donations in a plastic bag inside or next to their mailbox on Friday night or Saturday morning. The postal workers will then collect the donations, which will benefit the food pantry at Interfaith Emergency Services.

Food donations can also be dropped off at post office lobbies in Ocala/Marion County. These donations will then be delivered to Interfaith Emergency Services for distribution in the local area.

The annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive is led by letter carriers across the nation represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers, with help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees, and volunteers.

Over the past 30 years, the drive has delivered more than 1.8 billion pounds of food, according to USPS.
