Loris Jean Katherine Hunter

Loris Jean Katherine Hunter, 82, of Ocala, Florida passed away in her home. She was born in Port Maria, Jamaica to Iris and Robert Hunter on July 23, 1941.

She went to Titchfield Elementary, Titchfield Secondary School, and Ferncourt Secondary School. At age 18, she studied at the Royal Infirmary in Glascow, Scotland and became a nurse. She worked in London, England for 12 years and became a matron (chief nurse). She was recruited from London to work at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she worked for 8 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Marymount Manhattan College. She moved to Ocala with her family and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Loris is survived by her daughter, Melissa A. Walton, Lakeland, FL, son-in-law, Brian, granddaughter, Iris, grandson, Grant, sister, Paddie Magnus, sister Olive Hunter, brother, Eric Hunter, nephew, Oliver Magnus, and six nieces (Marcia Magnus, Eriade Williams, Adiclere Evans, Cireeleda Trahan, Leadrice Hunter, and Decrielea Coney). She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Barry (Odinga) Hunter, and sister, Madge Hunter.
