An Ocala park has reopened after a sinkhole that formed at the park last week was repaired.
On Tuesday, August 6, Ocala Recreation and Parks reported that a sinkhole had opened up at Jim Kirk Park, which is located at 2913 NE 9th Street in Ocala.
The park was closed indefinitely as crews worked to evaluate the damage and repair the sinkhole.
On Friday, August 9, the city announced that the sinkhole had been repaired and the park was reopened to the public.
“The sinkhole has been repaired and the park is back open to the public,” reads a statement from Ocala Recreation and Parks.
Located in the northeast side of Ocala, Jim Kirk Park features a playground, picnic tables, a hiking trail, exercise equipment, and benches.
The 10.9-acre park is also home to one of the Early Learning Coalition of Marion County’s learning trails, which are scattered across the county.
