A restaurant in west Ocala that serves authentic Salvadorian cuisine is approaching its one-year anniversary.
Pupuseria Salvadoreña Andrades opened its doors at 5801 W State Road 40 in early 2024.
The restaurant is situated less than a fifth of a mile from W SR 40’s intersection with SW 60th Avenue, near the Ocala International Airport.
Owned by Leydi A. Membreno Andrade, Pupuseria Salvadoreña Andrades specializes in traditional Salvadorian dishes.
That includes chicken tamales, tacos, and homemade horchata, which is a popular drink made with rice, cinnamon, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk.
Every dish at the restaurant is made-to-order with fresh ingredients, according to the establishment’s website.
“Our secret recipes are passed down through generations, ensuring that each dish is infused with the traditional flavors of El Salvador. Whether you’re a fan of classic dishes or looking to try something new, our extensive menu has something for everyone,” reads the website.
The restaurant derives its name from the “pupusa,” which is a thick griddle cake from El Salvador made with cornmeal or rice flour.
Pupuseria Salvadoreña Andrades is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
